What we choose to eat has important environmental consequences.
Energy, water & chemicals go into producing everyday food items – from a humble lettuce to the chocolate bar. Different types of foods require different amounts of energy to be produced e.g. the most energy intensive foods to produce are meat & dairy; the least energy intensive are unprocessed & simple foods such as vegetables.
All foods must be transported from where they’re produced to where they are sold i.e. to you. This transport too uses energy & resources. The less they travel the less energy & resources they use.
Below are some guidelines on how you can be environmentally conscious in the way that you eat.
